The War of 1812 was a seminal event in forging Canadian identity. June 2012 marks the 200th anniversary of this important historical event.  While the War of 1812 finds its place in the history and social studies curriculum, this year’s commemoration offers a unique opportunity to explore the topic in many ways and from many points of view.

Our new pathfinder page connects teachers and students to a wealth of resources about the War of 1812. Students and families are encouraged to use the page as an entry point into learning about this most important event in Canadian history.

The War of 1812 pathfinder page includes:

  • Non-fiction book titles that can be found in most school libraries
  • Fiction titles on relevant themes
  • Suggested starting points for research in the Virtual Library
  • Links to great websites on the war, events around the 200th anniversary and related topics, in English et en français

We are building our collection of pathfinder pages on topics of particular  significance to Canadian culture. The War of 1812 page is the second in our series, following the successful introduction of our Remembrance Day page. More pathfinders will be published in the near future.
